According to the European Commission, improving public procurement process can yield big savings: even a 1% efficiency gain could save EUR 20 billion per year. In our new digest, we look at how the coronavirus pandemic may serve as an additional stimulus for reforming the system and what needs to be done to find a balance between time, efficiency and compliance with procurement procedures.

The Independent Audit Advisory Committee of the United Nations (IAAC) held its fifty-first session from 22 - 24 July 2020. Due to the ongoing challenges associated with the pandemic, the meetings were held virtually. The session was presided over by the Chair, Janet St. Laurent. All the other members of the Committee, namely: Richard Quartei Quartey (Vice-Chair), Dorothy Bradley, Anton Kosyanenko, and Agus Pramono were in attendance.

On July 27 the delegation of the Accounts Chamber headed by Aleksei Kudrin participated in the 55th ASOSAI Governing Board virtual meeting.

More than 150 experts from over 50 countries have participated in the webinar.

On July 16, 2020, Chairman of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation Aleksei Kudrin and President of the Court of Audit of the Republic of Slovenia Tomaž Vesel held a videoconference. The parties discussed the results of the parallel audit (held in 2019–2020) of the implementation of two intergovernmental agreements: on cooperation in the field of culture, science and education, and the establishment and operation of the scientific and cultural centres.

On June 22, 2020, SAI of Russia held the first virtual meeting of SCEI Expert Group which is focused on Strategic role of SAIs in addressing challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic. This new format of cooperation was established within INTOSAI Supervisory Committee on Emerging Issues, chaired by SAI of Russia.
